Antiquities that prosecutors say were looted from Greece and Italy were taken from the Manhattan home and office of billionaire collector Michael H. Steinhardt on Friday.

Known for his Greek artifact collection and patronage of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, hedge fund manager Steinhardt initially declined to comment to the New York Times. At least nine pieces, worth over $1 million, were seized from the 77-year-old's private collection, according to warrants.

In October, a sixth-century marble, worth $4.5 million, was seized from Steinhardt's home. The piece was returned to Lebanon.

Manhattan district attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. has focused intensely over the past year on repatriating looted artifacts from New York City collections, museums, and auction houses to their countries of origin.
