Grant Simon Rogers

Terra Incognita - U.S. premiere of the lush and evocative photographic series by Grant Simon Rogers

Patricia Clarke Studio
410 Palm Avenue, A 18
Carpinteria, California

PATRICIA CLARKE STUDIO is honored to host the American premiere of a lush and evocative photographic series, Terra Incognita by English visual artist and lecturer Grant Simon Rogers. His highly individual style of photography references a mid-twentieth century cinema technique known as “Day For Night.”

Having taught about conflict for many years, he is very sensitive to the subtleties of language. “How we describe our work communicates so much about the intentions of our visual practice as artists and about ourselves.”

Among the many influences that inspire Grant’s works are a blend of storytelling - from William Blake to Philip Pullman - and all forms of visual art from its early beginnings until now. Some of the artist’s particularly strong influences are the films of Powell & Pressburger and Akira Kurosawa.

Rogers trained at Portsmouth College of Art and is devoted to art education and visual literacy for all ages. He regularly contributes to the free life long learning program at the National Gallery and other museums and cultural institutions in London and across Continental Europe. The artist lives and works in London and Berlin.

ALL EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC.

Opening Reception: January 6 3 • 6 pm
Artist Talk: Saturday, January 13 2 • 4 pm
