Property from a Baltimore, Maryland Collector

Weschler's
40 West Gude Dr
Rockville, Maryland

The Elizabeth Louise “Betty” Margolet collection is rooted in two generations of antique dealers. Louise’s mother, Minerva R. Margolet, née Wachstein (1897-1968), started an antique business on North Howard Street, Baltimore, Maryland in 1939. Louise’s older sister Bernice Frances Margolet (1921-2008) soon joined their mother in the business and after several years the two sisters began to take on additional responsibilities due to their mother’s health. Upon their mother’s death, the antique business became Bernice’s full-time occupation.

Louise, however, choose a different career path. The Goucher College graduate became a medical research associate at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and spent her adult working life in that important endeavor. Louise’s love of science was accompanied by her passion for antiques, especially French and Asian examples. She and her sister were inseparable while making the rounds of the antique shows and auctioneers’ salesrooms from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C. and points in between.

Weschler's was a particular favorite and the two sisters could be seen at nearly every auction. Louise had a wonderful antique collection of her own that was enhanced by her mother’s and sister’s estates. She sold a portion of the collections shortly after Bernice’s death in 2008 but kept the many hundreds of pieces she enjoyed the most.

The executors, Ben Swanson, Kamila Swanson and Mary Ann Isaacs are proud to present her treasures at auction.

Exhibit - September 9-14; Weschler's New Location: 40 West Gude Dr, Ste 100, Rockville MD 20850
